to BE a pioneer!

Image
On Saturday we joined in with a couple hundred or so of our fellow Mormon friends and celebrated a Palmyra style-Pioneer Day. Now, I'm used to Pioneer day including the following: --A day off from work --A big old parade that I sometimes watched on TV --Running in the 10K and feeling a little barfy because of the heat --My sister Jenny waving from a float with a big crown on her head (she was the 1st attendant in the Days of '47 Royalty, don'tcha know) --A big old rodeo if your name is Trent and you're the girlfriend(s) he had before me --And maybe ending the night with some illegal fireworks somebody went to Evanston and purchased. This pioneer day celebration did not include any of the above. But, I think it might have been even awesome-r, maybe for the sole fact that it held within a stone's throw of the Sacred Grove. Also, several months ago, Trent and I were asked by some dear ladies in our ward to participate in a "puppet show" about a pioneer fa...

Glorious Summer

See the title of this post? Originally, this post had 12 pictures with commentary about all the wonderful ways we're spending the summer. Then Lillian reached up her tiny (and oh-so-dexteritous) pointer finger and click, click, the whole thing was deleted. I'm still trying to figure out how she did it, but after that click, all that remained is the title. I sort of want to tether Lillian to her crib today. Deleting my blog post is only the beginning of our woes together over the last 24 hours. Let's see, there's the cover plate to bottom of the oven which she's pulled loose; there's the dishwasher which she's dived into twice (once full, once empty); there's the CD tower she's attacked, there's the full container of new mineral makeup she swiped off the bathroom counter and spilled all over herself and the floor,...

Utah Trip Top 10

Image
We are home. We are settled. We are recovering from sleep deprivation incurred on a red-eye flight that also included a little bit of this (yes, we really did experience it, right there on the runway). Now that we're back, it's time for this year's edition of our Utah Trip Top 10. In random order, here they are (get excited, peeps, this is gonna be good): #10 No one loves you like your Mama: Nothing can compare with the time we spent with our beloved family members. It was delightful beyond description to see Lillian interact with her grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. I was especially grateful when Lillian and I got sick beyond measure and I called my mom in a stress-induced-grad-school-and-this-sick-baby-is-killing-me-cry. She dropped everything and took Lillian for the day. Who does stuff like that except moms? #9 Dog Heaven : Spending most of our time at homes that were very animal friendly meant Lillian was in pet heaven. Sometimes the dogs dissed her (see belo...
