Moses Malanghu

I remembered the story of Moses Malanghu this morning. He was one of the first people to be baptized into the Mormon church from Ghana, Africa. He had discovered the Church when he happened upon a Book of Mormon. Moses read it, loved it, and desperately wanted to be baptized. Due to circumstances beyond his control, it took 14 years for that desperately waited for event to occur. I remember seeing an interview where he was asked, "After all of that, weren't you angry at God?" He replied, "Oh no, I could never be angry at God. God is so good to me...but I do think I perfected the attribute of waiting." 14 years sort of puts 2 weeks into perspective. This waiting thing? I'm working on it.

Books, books, books

With a little extra time on my hands, I've been the blessed beneficiary of lots reading time. Thought I'd share a few recommendations in case you're looking for something to read, or if you've already read them, then we can discuss them. See how the fun with books really never stops? Okay, I know everyone in the world is reading this right now. I've got to begin my review by explaining my history with this saga (why is it a "saga" and not a "series"?). Hunker down, because this review is going to take a minute. I read Twilight on my honeymoon. I know, weird choice of a book, but it was good times swaying in the hammock on the shores of the Carribean Ocean reading all about Bella and Edward. About 150 pages in, my astute and literate husband started yelling at Bella about how whiny she is. Without his keen insight, I perhaps would have gotten caught up in the romance of it all, but I could not deny that Bella is a bit of a whiny-butt, yes? So, T...

Dang it!

This baby is living life on her own terms. We're back from the hospital after a good hearty try at induction. No go. After a 24 hour attempt, I've decided that she's coming when she wants to. We're going to sit back and let her. See? We're amazing parents already!

The day before

In your eyes I see forever Makes me wish that my life never knew The day before you Heaven knows those years without you Shaping my heart for the that day I found you You're the reason for all that I've been through And I'm thankful for the day before you. Now you're here and everything's changing Suddenly life means so much I can't wait to wake up tomorrow And find out this promise is true I will never have to go back to The day before you. Okay, it's cheesy. It's a country song. Doesn't quite qualify as canonized poetry. BUT, nevertheless, I distinctly remember this song because it perfectly describes a moment I've only experienced twice in my life. The first time was the day before I met Trent. I can remember the moment perfectly. I was, of all things, working out at the gym, and this song came on my MP3 player. I paused in the middle of whatever weight routine I was doing and listened to the whole thing. It might sound crazy, but honestly, I ...

Do you speak New York?

Thought you might get a kick out of this real email correspondence Trent received from a partner at his firm. It's all real, I just omitted the name. Enjoy. Trent, I really appreciate your assistance on this and other matters. Maybe it's a personal preference of mine, but would you please not use the "We are always happy to help" language when you work with me ... This shows up in many of your notes, and I've never seen it in the legal context previously. In my humble opinion, it sounds at the very least gratuitous, and even not terribly professional. Kind of grates, if you understand. Thanks. XXX Trent's response (pretty funny, if you ask me. Fortunately, Mr. XXX thought so, too!) Dear XXX: I'll add that to my list of "Sayings XXX Hates": 1. "Yours Truly" 2. "We are always happy to help" 3. "ya'll" or "all ya'll" 4. "I don't work on weekends" 5. "Why don't you [client] come d...

For the love of his bike

Image
This weekend, the scouts in our area went on an adventurous excursion. Their goal was to bike the entire Erie Canal from Buffalo to Albany. As the deacons' quorum advisor at Church, Trent spends a lot of time with these scouts and was excited to join them on this adventure. Because of my--um, what shall we call it?-- delicate condition, the doctor advised that I and Trent not wander too far from home. It almost broke my heart to tell him that he needed to stay home with me (believe me, I am delightful company these days...but that's another story) So, we wrangled and negotiated the schedule until we found a way that Trent could join his boys for at least part of the trip and still be around with me. To say that Trent loves this kind of stuff is the understatement of the world. I would gladly give money to anyone who can prove that they love spending time exercising in the outdoors as much as Trent does. When this man is outside with a pair of running shoes or even roller bla...
