Thought you might get a kick out of this real email correspondence Trent received from a partner at his firm. It's all real, I just omitted the name. Enjoy.

Trent, I really appreciate your assistance on this and other matters. Maybe it's a personal preference of mine, but would you please not use the "We are always happy to help" language when you work with me ... This shows up in many of your notes, and I've never seen it in the legal context previously. In my humble opinion, it sounds at the very least gratuitous, and even not terribly professional. Kind of grates, if you understand.

Trent's response (pretty funny, if you ask me. Fortunately, Mr. XXX thought so, too!)

Dear XXX:

I'll add that to my list of "Sayings XXX Hates":

1. "Yours Truly"
2. "We are always happy to help"
3. "ya'll" or "all ya'll"
4. "I don't work on weekends"
5. "Why don't you [client] come down to Rochester with XXX and I'll take you to the demolition derby.... it's got good eats."

:)

Bottom line: If you live in New England/Upstate NY area, please don't tell anyone that you're happy to help. Trent's also gotten a bit of feedback from a paralegal for saying "thanks for doing a great job" so you better not say that one, either.


Gotta love it.

Count on Trent to handle every situation with the appropriate balance of grace and humor. He has so little ego, stuff that would enrage the average person just rolls off his back. What a great guy. And what a crazy state you live in!

WAHT????? seriously, you should put that in an editorial or something and tell the people to get a clue. They did elect that one lady as their senator, after all. Seriously, people of NY... WAKE UP!!!

Today was Stake Conference. Trent was part of the program, and the Stake Center is 30 minutes away. We hustled out the door at 9 a.m. and made it in time (I thought) to get the soft cushy seats up front for great view for Trent's oboe performance and some good old nurturing of the Good Word. On our second date, Trent took me home to meet his family. We walked in the front door and found his mom in the kitchen, busily attending to Trent's younger brother, Thad. To that point in my life, I was wholly unexperienced with physically and mentally disabled people. Upon my first meeting of Thad, who has been handicapped since birth, I felt a little uncomfortable. Facebook is for extroverts (and other observations of an introvert)

Classic moment with my husband, the extrovert. Let me tell you a little secret: I am an introvert. Does that surprise you? It surprised me, too. I discovered this little nugget of extremely salient information one day when I was 47 weeks pregnant and Trent invited a family over for Sunday dinner and I burst into tears. Follow the line of logic here from an extrovert's (TRENT) point of view: Liz is pregnant. She is sick of being pregnant. She needs to get her mind off of that. I will give her the GIFT of a lot of people here at the house playing games and laughing. We will enjoy their company. This will totally re-energize her. This will be great.
