I suggest a day trip.
If you should ever come to visit,
I suggest a day trip
With Trent, Liz, and Lillian as your tour guides.
We'll begin with a beautiful drive through the Fingerlakes region
The changing colors of the leaves will delight you almost as much as
Lillian serenading you with Disney hits on the way
Until we arrive at a lovely little town called Naples.
First, we'll hike Grimes Glen
You can feel the crystal clear water run across your feet
You'll marvel at the sunlight shining through the trees that overarch the path
You'll giggle with delight at the giant waterfall cascading down the limestone precipice
And like a little child, you'll scramble up its face and dance in its gentle spray.
Next, a stop at Cindy's house.
You'll taste your very first bite of Concord Grape Pie.
Cindy sells her pies from her front door.
We'll eat the pie right in the car, because it's just that tasty.
And you'll realize that grape juice is not the only
Nor the greatest gift the grape has to give.
Now it's time to head for the vineyards.
You'll get a box and a pair of shears from a gentle giant in a grape colored shirt
We like to call him Jerome, even though we're not sure if that's his name.
He'll send you out to his vineyards to pick to your heart's content
And as the sunlight warms you, you'll scamper or stroll down rows of grapes
The sweet scent of grapes permeates the air as you pick.
Pulling aside verdant grape leaves,
You'll find bunches and bunches and bunches
Of purple and blue and pink grapes
That burst with juice when you pluck them from their vines.
As the sun is just beginning to set, we'll wind our way out of the vineyard
Loading up the car with our boxes of plenty
We'll stop at Bob and Ruth's for a burger and some fries.
And you might decide--as we have--that this is the best burger you've ever eaten.
We'll arrive home at dusk
We'll hook up our juicer
We'll wash the grapes
We'll steam them until the smell of grapes fills the house
We'll fill jar after jar of juice
And send you home with a taste of Naples.
At day's end, you might feel a little like a grape:
Full, Abundant, and Sweet.
Your day trip awaits you,
So come soon, okay?
